Girl wearing hijab will be PM of India one day says Asaduddin Owaisi BJP leaders react - India Today

On Sunday, Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi declared that a girl wearing a hijab would be the Prime Minister of India one day. This comes amid the Karnataka hijab row that erupted after a group of Muslim students were barred from entering their college on account of wearing hijabs.

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Owaisi tweeted a video on Sunday, in which he said that women wearing hijabs will go to college, become district collectors, magistrates, doctors, businesswomen and so on.

Addressing an audience, Owaisi can be heard saying in the video, "I may not be alive to see it, but mark my words, one day a hijab-wearing girl will be the Prime Minister."

He added, "If our daughters decide and tell their parents they want to wear hijabs, their parents will support them. Let's see who can stop them!

When India Today asked MP Owaisi about his tweet, he refrained from commenting.

BJP LEADERS REACT

Responding to Owaisi, UP Deputy CM and BJP leader Dinesh Sharma said, "The Opposition is conspiring to spread communalism in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party's B team is the AIMIM. The fragrance of development is in the state, there is no place for the foul smell of communalism."

Telangana MLA T Raja Singh of the BJP said, "As long as the BJP is there, no 'burqa-wali' will become the prime minister. No matter how much you increase your population, we won't let this dream of yours come true. 'Hum Do Humare Do' law will also be implemented soon. We know very well how to put a brake to your population."

HIJAB ROW IN KARNATAKA

The Karnataka hijab row erupted after a group of young Muslim students were not permitted to enter their college in Udupi district on account of wearing hijabs.

The issue spread across the state as more colleges and schools issued similar diktats. Opposing groups of students began protesting both for and against the right to wear hijabs in educational institutes. Those opposing the Muslim girls donned saffron scarves and the clash in ideology turned violent in a few areas.

The controversy snowballed further with national political parties attacking each other over the issue. The protests have now spread to different parts of the nation and the matter is in the high court at present.
